Microsoft is testing a Shared Audio feature in Windows 11 that streams audio to two Bluetooth devices at once, available in the Insider Preview Build 26220.7051.
Bluetooth LE Audio Features
The Shared Audio feature utilizes Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio to enable sound broadcast to two pairs of headphones, speakers, or earbuds without the need for splitters or extra hardware. This approach enhances power efficiency, reduces latency, and improves battery life on compatible devices.
PCs must support the Copilot+ technology, including certain Surface laptops and Surface Pro Snapdragon X models, and audio devices must be Bluetooth LE Audio compatible.
Supported Devices and Usage
Participants in the Windows Insider Program can access Shared Audio via the Dev and Beta channels. The feature is not supported on many older devices. Microsoft plans to increase compatibility with future updates following the public release.
To try Shared Audio, ensure your PC supports Bluetooth LE Audio and is updated to Build 26220.7051. Connect two compatible audio devices and enable the feature using the Quick Settings menu. Key applications include shared entertainment, gaming, and study sessions.
