A new bug in Windows 11 is causing Task Manager to duplicate its instances each time it is closed and reopened. This issue emerged after a recent update that focused on improving the Start menu and other functionalities.
Duplication Issue Explained
The bug causes each re-opened Task Manager to run additional instances, significantly consuming system memory and resources. Users have reported seeing more than 20 Task Manager instances on affected systems.
To manually terminate instances, right-click each Task Manager entry and select 'End Task', or use an elevated command prompt to execute: taskkill /im taskmgr.exe /f. Users can avoid duplication by closing Task Manager internally: right-click its entry under Background Processes and select 'End Task'.
Workarounds and Upcoming Fix
Microsoft has yet to release a permanent fix for this problem. Until an update is available, affected users should implement the above-mentioned workarounds to manage system performance effectively.
