Microsoft has expanded its shared audio feature in Windows 11, allowing users to customize volume levels for individual headphones or earbuds. This enhancement is part of the ongoing preview of shared audio, which initially launched last year.
Volume Customization and Indicators
The latest update introduces dedicated volume sliders in the control center under Shared Audio (Preview), enabling each listener to set their preferred audio level. Despite these individual controls, the main system-tray volume still adjusts the volume for all connected devices simultaneously. A new tray indicator, represented by a speaker icon with two people, signifies when shared audio is active and offers quick access to the feature.
Expanded Headset Compatibility
Microsoft has also broadened the range of headsets compatible with shared audio. The update now supports devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4, Buds 4 Pro, Sony WF-1000XM6, and the Xbox Wireless Headset. However, shared audio remains exclusive to Copilot+ PCs.
Availability and Additional Features
Users interested in these improvements can download build 26300.7939 from the Dev Channel or 26220.7934 from the Beta Channel, as the features are being gradually rolled out. Additionally, Microsoft has introduced MIDI 2.0 support to Windows 11, further enhancing its audio capabilities.
