Microsoft has announced the general availability of new update readiness features for Windows Autopatch, aimed at enhancing device visibility and control for commercial customers. These improvements are designed to streamline how Windows updates are assessed, deployed, and managed across enterprise environments.
Enhanced Visibility and Control
Windows Autopatch, a cloud-based service, automates the deployment of Windows updates across Intune-managed devices. The new features provide real-time insights into device readiness and identify potential configuration issues before updates are applied. This proactive approach includes remediation guidance to ensure smoother update cycles.
New Management Features
Microsoft has introduced four key experiences to enhance Autopatch functionality. The Autopatch management status report offers a comprehensive overview of Intune-managed devices and their compliance with Autopatch policies. The Quality update journey provides detailed visibility into the lifecycle of updates on a per-device basis. Alerts and Remediations centralize update-related alerts with actionable guidance, while the Update Readiness Checker proactively identifies devices at risk of update failures.
Impact on Enterprise IT
These features aim to reduce update failures and downtime, lower security risks from outdated systems, and improve consistency in update deployment. Microsoft has made these capabilities available at no additional cost to commercial customers with a Windows Autopatch license. The service is accessible to organizations using Windows Enterprise, Frontline, Education, US Government, and Business Premium SKUs.
