Google has unveiled new features for Android, including custom Caller ID through Calling Cards and enhanced location sharing capabilities. These updates are designed to improve user interaction and connectivity on Android devices.
Calling Cards on Android
The new Calling Cards feature allows users to display personalized information when making calls. Available on Android 11 and later, these cards show up on compatible devices, providing recipients with the caller's identity. Both the caller and recipient must have Phone by Google as their primary calling app to use this feature. Users can customize the photo, font, and name color displayed, although direct avatar or emoji selection is not yet supported. However, images from the gallery can be used as an alternative.
Enhanced Location Sharing
Google has also updated its Find Hub, previously known as Find My Device, to facilitate real-time location sharing through Google Messages. Users can set a time limit for sharing or manually turn it off. Additionally, Find Hub now supports sharing the location of tracked items with partnered airlines, aiding in the recovery of lost luggage. Google is collaborating with over 10 major airlines, including China Airlines, Air India, and Turkish Airlines, with plans to expand to others like Qantas.
