Google has announced the general availability of 'Cameyo by Google', a virtual application delivery platform that allows Chromebooks to run Windows applications through the Chrome browser or as progressive web apps. This service is priced at $132 per user annually.
Integration and Compatibility
Cameyo adds integration with Chrome Enterprise and the Google Admin Console, designed to simplify application deployment and management. It incorporates security features like URL filtering and data loss prevention.
The platform gives administrators the ability to deliver apps to devices in mere minutes without configuring the end-user devices, creating a workspace where web and legacy apps coexist seamlessly.
Broadening Enterprise Capabilities
Incorporating Cameyo, Google strengthens its enterprise suite by allowing businesses to continue using essential Windows apps while leveraging their existing Google infrastructure. Cameyo hosts Windows apps within a secure virtual environment, supporting interactions with Google’s Gemini AI assistant.
According to product manager Rob Beard, the aim is to make web and legacy applications integrate at a comparable level, enhancing productivity and efficiency in business environments.
Analysts suggest that this move will help organizations focusing on Google’s ecosystem to maintain critical Windows applications while exploring broader enterprise capabilities offered by Google.
