Microsoft has introduced a new OneDrive app for Windows 10 and 11, designed to streamline photo management using advanced AI features. The app provides users with a comprehensive way to organize, view, and edit their extensive photo collections.
New OneDrive App Features
The new OneDrive app offers a unified interface with various photo viewing options such as Moments, Gallery, Albums, People, and Favorites. Moments highlights key images from specific past dates and includes AI-generated slideshows. Gallery displays photos in chronological order with customizable zoom and layout options. Albums allows the creation and viewing of user-generated photo collections.
- Moments offers AI slideshow creation.
- Albums support custom photo collections.
- Gallery provides chronological photo viewing.
- People feature allows grouping by individuals.
- Favorites highlights tagged photos.
Additionally, users can hover over photos for quick actions like viewing information, favoriting, or sharing, while detailed options are available through opening an image, such as editing tools for cropping, brightness adjustments, and filters.
AI Integration and Upcoming Tools
Microsoft plans to enhance the OneDrive experience with the upcoming Photos Agent, a Copilot AI-powered tool designed to find specific photos, create and share albums using criteria such as names and other identifiers. This feature will be accessible to Microsoft 365 Copilot users on Windows and the web, as well as to Microsoft 365 Premium subscribers.
In addition, a mobile update, exclusive to Microsoft 365 subscribers, will introduce AI mobile editing tools for applying styles and the Photo Stacks feature, which groups and suggests cleanup for blurry or duplicate photos.
Access and Future Integration
Currently available by navigating through File Explorer, the OneDrive app is set for deeper integration within the Windows ecosystem in the future. As of now, the app operates with cloud-based files, with plans to include support for local files announced.
This suite of tools by Microsoft aims to provide users with more control and ease in managing their digital photo libraries, making organization and access more intuitive and efficient.
