Firaxis has unveiled the Firaxis Feature Workshop, a new initiative allowing select players to test features for Civilization 7 before their official release. Participants will gain early access to innovations and have the opportunity to shape the development of future updates.
Playtesting Details
Firaxis' creative director, Ed Beach, announced that the studio is currently internally testing a new mode called single-civ. This mode allows choosing a civilization from any historical period and guiding it through different eras without switching civilizations. A select group of players will also test changes to Legacy Paths and Victories, essential components in gameplay progression.
Release and Development Plans
Following the launch of patch 1.3.0 on 2025-11-04, Firaxis aims to prioritize major features such as the single-civ mode. Going forward, updates will be smaller and less frequent, with an increased focus on integrating community feedback through the Workshop. Successful applicants to the Workshop will join a private Discord server to communicate directly with developers.
