Google has expanded its Quick Share feature to include more Pixel devices, enhancing cross-platform file sharing capabilities with Apple's AirDrop. Initially exclusive to the Pixel 10 series, Quick Share is now available for Pixel 9 models, including the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. However, the Pixel 9a remains excluded from this update.
Cross-Platform Sharing
Quick Share enables users to send files directly between Pixel and Apple devices. For this to work, Apple devices must have AirDrop set to "Everyone nearby." This feature also supports file transfers from Apple devices to Pixels, and is compatible with iPad and Mac models.
Rollout and Future Plans
The rollout of Quick Share to Pixel 9 devices is staggered, meaning not all users will receive the update simultaneously. Once available, users may need to manually install the Quick Share extension via Settings > System services > Quick Share extension. Google has not yet confirmed which non-Pixel Android phones will receive the update, but potential announcements could occur at events like Samsung Unpacked or MWC. Possible candidates for future updates include Samsung's Galaxy S26, Nothing, and Xiaomi devices.
This expansion aligns with the EU's Digital Markets Act, which promotes broader cross-platform interoperability across digital ecosystems.
