Google has launched new Android XR features for Samsung's Galaxy XR, starting with PC Connect. The feature facilitates cross-platform integration by linking a Windows computer with an Android XR device. It allows users to display their desktops or windows alongside Google Play apps in full resolution, supported by high frame rates over Wi-Fi.
Key Features of PC Connect
PC Connect employs low-latency streaming technology derived from Google's Stadia project. This enables seamless operation of games from Windows platforms, accommodating controllers. The new features include:
- PC Connect's beta version launches today for Galaxy XR.
- Input bridging allows a single keyboard and mouse to control both connected devices.
- Full-resolution displays of desktop windows and native apps side by side.
- Mac support is planned for release next year.
Additional Features and Future Plans
Google also unveiled Travel Mode and Likeness as additional enhancements. Travel Mode ensures stable viewing while in motion. Likeness, a phone-based digital avatar program, mirrors real-time facial expressions and gestures. The beta version of Likeness is available today.
These advancements underscore Google's commitment to expanding Galaxy XR's capabilities, enhancing cross-device functionality and paving the way for future developments in Android XR and related technologies.
