At the recent Ignite developer conference, Microsoft introduced new Windows 11 recovery features designed to streamline system restoration. The key additions include Point-in-Time Restore and Cloud Rebuild, both aimed at enhancing user control and efficiency.
Windows 11 Recovery Features
The Point-in-Time Restore feature allows users to revert their PC to a previous state, effectively addressing issues caused by recent updates, driver conflicts, or configuration errors. This option will enter the Windows Insider build preview this week.
Cloud Rebuild, another key feature, permits administrators to initiate a fresh installation of Windows 11 remotely. Using the Intune portal, admin can select the OS version and language, triggering a download of the installation media for system rebuilds.
Implementation and Availability
Microsoft has ensured that the Cloud Rebuild process incorporates Autopilot, supporting zero-touch provisioning to maintain MDM enrollment and policy compliance. User data and settings are seamlessly restored using OneDrive and Windows Backup for Organizations.
The company plans to make these recovery options widely available in the first half of next year as part of its Windows Resiliency Initiative, reflecting its commitment to simplifying and enhancing system recovery.
