Skill Respec Options Expand in Borderlands 4

11 Sep 2025

In the dynamic world of Borderlands 4, players have the opportunity to tailor their vault hunter’s abilities through skill points earned as they level up. This system offers a wealth of customization, letting players shape their character's strengths and weaknesses. However, the game introduces a strategic layer with the option to respec these skill points.

Respec Your Skills

To respec skills, players must locate one of the numerous respec machines scattered across the planet Kairos. These machines are marked on the map with a distinct icon resembling a triangle with a person inside. Respeccing skill points provides a clean slate for players, refunding all previously spent points for redistribution. This process, however, comes at a cost—a percentage of the player's cash on hand. The convenience of frequent eases respecs is balanced by this financial consideration, making it essential to plan before spending.

As an added incentive, players can respec as often as they wish, provided they are willing to pay the requisite fee. By interacting with the machine and holding the Use button, players are swiftly brought to the skill tree interface where they must immediately reallocate their points. It's crucial to commit to new allocations; failure to do so will result in a blank skill tree with no refund, necessitating another respec.

Specialization Respec Using Eridium

The game deepens this system through specialization points, which can also be reset at the respec machine, but with a twist—these restocks use Eridium, a rare, valuable resource. Specializations allow players to define their vault hunter's role, choosing between options like Survivor, Brute, Sharpshooter, or Runner. Allocating points into specializations unlocks passive skills, enhancing the strategic depth of character development.

Given the limited availability and higher value of Eridium, players are encouraged to deliberate thoroughly before committing to specialization points. The cost to respec a specialization is a percentage of the player’s Eridium deposits, making each respec a significant decision.

With the introduction of flexible respec options in Borderlands 4, players are presented with a playground for experimentation and customization. This system not only enhances individual gameplay experience but also reflects the developers' commitment to providing a dynamic and engaging environment for all players. Whether fine-tuning a vault hunter to perfection or exploring new playstyles, the respec feature offers an intriguing element to the Borderlands experience.
