Edge's Screenshot Tool May Integrate Copilot, Seen in Canary Build

Exploring the Future of Edge's Screenshot Tool

Edge has long been equipped with a handy screenshot tool, initially known as Web Capture before being rebranded to the more straightforward "screenshots." With the recent integration of Copilot into various aspects of Edge, Microsoft seems to be considering incorporating Copilot into the screenshot feature as well.

In a recent Canary build, a feature labeled "msEdgeWebCaptureAskCopilotMenu" caught the attention of Windows Latest. Curious as always, we attempted to tweak the browser's launch settings to see if any new screenshot-related options would emerge.

Unfortunately, enabling this feature did not reveal any significant changes. However, the potential for integrating Copilot into the screenshot tool remains intriguing. Currently, users can capture screenshots in Edge by simply right-clicking on the desired area and selecting the screenshot option.

Following the screenshot capture, an annotation window appears, providing an ideal space for the addition of an "Ask Copilot" feature. Given that Edge already offers image editing tools, incorporating this option should not pose a significant challenge, especially considering its presence in the browser's context menu.

One possible implementation could involve sending the captured image directly to Copilot in the sidebar. While users can currently conduct a web search using the captured screenshot, sending it to Copilot could leverage the latest GPT models for enhanced analysis.

Although the feature is not fully functional in the current Canary build, we anticipate its eventual rollout. In the meantime, Microsoft has introduced the AI theme generator to the stable channel of the Edge browser.

Create Unique Themes with AI

The AI theme generator, previously highlighted in the official roadmap by Windows Latest, is now available in the stable channel for users to explore. Upon testing the feature, we delved into its capabilities and functionality.

Upon accessing the AI theme generator URL, a text box prompts users to input their theme idea along with specific details. Following a brief 20-second processing period, the generated theme is ready for use.

Additionally, users have the option to select "Surprise me" for a random theme generation or utilize the theme prompt cards provided at the bottom, either as is or with modifications to create a personalized theme.

The generated theme's dominant color is applied to the browser frame, while users can choose the window's color scheme from the suggested options or utilize the color picker for a customized look.

Upon launching a new tab in Edge, users can admire the AI-generated image in all its glory. However, it's worth noting that the image quality appeared average and slightly pixelated on a 2K monitor, suggesting room for improvement in future iterations of the feature.
