Meta has announced the closure of messenger.com, effective April 2026, redirecting users to facebook.com/messages for desktop messaging. This move also includes the discontinuation of the Messenger desktop app.
Transition to Facebook Messages
After the shutdown, users will be redirected to facebook.com/messages to continue their conversations on a computer. For those who prefer mobile, the Messenger app remains available. Users without a Facebook account should use the mobile app to access Messenger services.
Data and User Guidance
Meta assures users that chat history can be restored on any platform using a PIN. To facilitate a smooth transition, Meta plans to display pop-up reminders on both the Messenger website and app prior to the change.
