Windows 11's hidden "Ultimate Performance" mode offers a significant boost in workstation efficiency by eliminating micro-latencies and maximizing CPU performance.
Activating Ultimate Performance
To enable Ultimate Performance, users must access Windows Terminal or Command Prompt and execute the command: powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61. Afterward, navigate to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select it under Show additional plans.
Technical Enhancements
Ultimate Performance mode ensures a 100% minimum CPU state, disables core parking, and sets the Energy Performance Preference (EPP) to zero, prioritizing maximum performance. It also turns off power-saving features such as hard-disk sleep, USB selective suspend, and PCIe link-state power management. This results in continuously powered drives, USB ports, and PCIe links.
Impact on Performance
While peak FPS and maximum render times may not see dramatic improvements, the mode enhances one-percent-low frame stability and responsiveness, crucial for workstation tasks. However, expect increased idle power consumption, higher idle temperatures, and louder fan noise. Laptops will experience significantly reduced battery life, making this mode more suitable for desktops with adequate cooling and power supply.
