Freeciv is a captivating, free, and open-source turn-based strategy game inspired by the iconic Civilization series, particularly its second and third installments. Players can engage in epic offline battles against AI or compete online with over 100 players worldwide. Starting in 4000 BC with a settler and explorer, guide your civilization through millennia to achieve world dominance or build a spaceship to reach Alpha Centauri. With a steep learning curve typical of 4X strategy games, Freeciv offers a comprehensive tutorial and an extensive Wiki to help new players. The game boasts numerous customization options, from community-created scenarios on specific maps to procedurally generated worlds with adjustable opponents. Whether playing against AI or friends online, the experience is endlessly engaging. Since its initial release in 1997, Freeciv has seen continuous improvements and now supports over a dozen operating systems and 30 languages. It's a must-play for strategy enthusiasts and a heartfelt tribute to classic video gaming.

I like Freeciv; it’s a great strategy game! The turn-based kicking is really enjoyable. I especially like managing resources. However, I occasionally find it a bit buggy. Still, that excitement of building a civilization is so worth it!
