The change, initially teased in April 2024, is set to streamline organization by allowing reminders from Keep notes to automatically appear in Google Calendar.
Unified Reminder System
This update marks a significant step in Google's ongoing effort to unify its to-do list systems, which began in 2023. Users can now save time-based Keep reminders directly in Google Tasks, simplifying task tracking and planning. The transition to the new system started on 2025-10-13.
To activate the feature, users should tap the bell icon within a Keep note. The reminder menu will now display the Google Tasks logo, indicating that reminders are saved within Google Tasks. While classic scheduling options still apply, users can edit dates and times via Keep, Calendar, or the Google Tasks app.
Changes in Reminder Management
Notably, this integration means the discontinuation of location-based reminders. Users will now rely on Google Calendar or the Tasks app for reminder alerts, requiring both apps to be installed for seamless operation. This adjustment highlights a trade-off for users accustomed to the previous system.
Additionally, deleting a task from Google Calendar will not remove the original Google Keep note, allowing for continued access to the initial content. Users can also utilize Google's AI assistant, Gemini, to inquire about reminders saved through Keep.
