Consumer Demand and Commercial Sector Performance

According to Greg Davis, an analyst at Canalys, the post-holiday season discounts have boosted consumer demand for PCs in early 2024. Additionally, there has been an increase in performance within the commercial sector, particularly in small and medium businesses. This growth is attributed to the anticipated refresh prompted by the end-of-life of Windows 10. With enterprise customers expected to follow suit, the market outlook remains positive in the near term.

AI Capabilities and Market Adoption

Davis also notes that the availability of on-device AI capabilities in the market is increasing, leading to new products and user experiences that are likely to excite consumers and businesses in both the Windows and Apple ecosystems. The US is predicted to be a leader in the adoption of AI-capable PCs as vendors focus on upgrading customers to premium devices.

Despite some resistance to AI in certain sectors, the sales numbers suggest a different story. The demand for AI-capable PCs may be driven by the need for operating system compatibility rather than pure excitement for new technology. Nevertheless, the industry remains optimistic about the potential for AI-enabled devices in the market.
