Microsoft Finds Bug in Various Linux Versions, Offers Temporary Fix

21 Aug 2024

In a recent announcement, Microsoft has identified a bug that primarily impacts older versions of Linux-based operating systems. However, it appears that this issue has also extended its reach to the latest iterations of popular distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Zorin OS, and Puppy Linux.

Workaround Solutions

While users await an official patch, there is a temporary solution available to mitigate the problem. By disabling Secure Boot, users can navigate to the terminal and execute a specific command to remove the SBAT policy. The command to be used is:

sudo mokutil -set-sbat-policy delete

After executing this command, a simple reboot will be necessary. Once the system has restarted, users are advised to re-enable Secure Boot to ensure continued security.

As the situation unfolds, it remains essential for users to stay informed and take proactive measures to protect their systems while awaiting a comprehensive resolution from Microsoft.
