Rockstar Games Leak Hints at GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption PC Port

17 Sep 2024

In a recent turn of events, Rockstar Games has inadvertently unveiled a glimpse into its future projects through a leaked folder on PC, stirring excitement among its dedicated fanbase. The leak not only hints at the long-anticipated GTA 6 but also reignites hopes for a Red Dead Redemption port on PC, alongside potential upgrades for GTA Online that have been awaited for over two years.

On Tuesday, Rockstar Games rolled out an update for GTA V on PC and the Rockstar Games Launcher. This update has provided further evidence that the studio is diligently working on these highly requested releases while simultaneously progressing with GTA 6.

Tez2, a well-known insider in the Rockstar community, took to Twitter to share insights regarding the update. He noted that a file left in the update suggests that a “Gen9” version of GTA V for PC has likely been in development since early this year. The term “Gen9” refers to the latest generation of consoles, namely the Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

The Recent Update: A Step Forward

The recent update primarily introduced a third-party anti-cheat system, BattlEye, which marks a significant step for GTA V on PC. This move is seen as a proactive measure against the cheaters that have plagued the game since its launch. Tez2 speculated that the addition of BattlEye could be an indication of preparations for the anticipated Gen9 version on PC.

Why PC Players Want This Update

The Gen9 version of GTA V promises a wealth of content that has yet to be made available on PC. Features such as Hao’s Special Works, Career Progress, and the GTA+ subscription service have been notably absent since March 2022, leaving PC players yearning for these additions. Furthermore, the upgraded graphics and advanced features like Ray Tracing and AMD’s FSR found on consoles remain out of reach for PC users, creating a sense of urgency as the community anticipates the release of GTA 6.

GTA 6, Red Dead Redemption on PC Also Mentioned

Alongside the updates for GTA V, the Rockstar Games Launcher also received an upgrade to support BattlEye, which can be toggled on or off within the launcher settings. However, the most intriguing aspect of the update was the accidental exposure of three folders that were not meant to be public: an Americas folder, a GTAV Gen9 folder, and a Red Dead Redemption folder. Internally, “Project Americas” is the codename for GTA VI, while the GTAV Gen9 folder pertains to the upgraded version of GTA V.

These folders were initially discovered by a user on Twitter, and upon verification, they were found to be almost empty, containing only subfolders labeled with random letters and numbers. Following this revelation, Rockstar has updated the launcher to prevent these folders from being visible to users who have not yet downloaded the latest update.

Tez2 has also shared links from SteamDB for both the Gen9 version of GTA V and the Red Dead Redemption port for PC, further fueling speculation about the future of these titles. For those eager to stay informed about all things Rockstar Games, subscribing to newsletters like RockstarINTEL is recommended, ensuring fans receive timely updates and exclusive content.

As anticipation builds, the gaming community remains on the edge of its seat, awaiting further developments from one of the industry’s most beloved studios.
