Xbox App Integrates New Feature to Streamline PC Gaming

22 Aug 2025

Microsoft is innovating its Xbox app for Windows with a new 'My apps' feature, designed to consolidate popular third-party launchers and gaming tools under one virtual roof. This development aims to simplify access to various gaming applications, including Steam, Battle.net, Ubisoft Connect, Chrome, and GOG Galaxy, all accessible directly from the Xbox app interface.

Streamlined Gaming Experience

The 'My apps' tab in the Xbox app's library offers a one-stop shop for gamers to install and launch their preferred applications without abandoning the Xbox interface. This functionality is particularly poised to enhance the experiences of users operating handheld Windows gaming PCs by granting access from Xbox's full-screen mode. The design minimizes background processes and defers non-essential tasks, optimizing resource allocation wherever possible.

While in its beta phase, 'My apps' can currently open launchers that are already installed on the system. It can also manage installations for those not yet installed. However, early testers encountered some initial glitches, such as instances where GOG Galaxy failed to install properly. Despite these teething issues, Microsoft is keen to augment the app's compatibility with even more applications over time.

Xbox app feature enhances PC gaming experience

A Hub for PC Gaming

The integration of this feature may usher in a new era where the Xbox app evolves into a pivotal hub for PC gaming. It aligns well with Microsoft's broader vision of offering a consolidated and seamless gaming experience across platforms. Gamers could anticipate an enriched interface where their existing and new gaming tools coexist effortlessly.

Despite these promising advancements, Microsoft remains committed to ongoing development and refinement before its official deployment. The forthcoming support expansion pledges to amplify the versatility and conveniences already introduced in this initial rollout.

In conjunction with the new Xbox app capabilities, Microsoft's strategy coincides with the release of new Windows gaming handhelds, expected to launch on October 16. While pre-orders have not been announced yet, the anticipation surrounding these new devices suggests a significant step forward in the gaming ecosystem.
