Microsoft is introducing a memory diagnostic tool in Windows 11 to improve crash resolution. This feature is available in the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6982 for the Dev Channel as of 2025-10-29.
Crash Diagnosis Feature
When Windows 11 encounters a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), the new tool prompts users to schedule a memory scan on reboot. Users have the option to accept or skip the scan. Initially, the tool triggers after any crash leading to a bug check. However, Microsoft plans to refine it for specific memory corruption cases.
- Feature: Automatic memory diagnostic post-BSOD
- Build: Included in Windows 11 Insider Preview 26220.6982
- Availability: Dev Channel as of 2025-10-29
- Scope: Currently accessible to Windows Insiders
- Objective: Highlight memory corruption issues
Impact on Memory Errors
This initiative aims to address difficult-to-diagnose memory errors. These errors cause intermittent crashes or slow data corruption, often due to defective or overclocked memory modules. By making these errors more visible, the tool helps users identify and resolve memory-related issues effectively.
Presently, this enhancement is exclusive to the Windows Insider community. Microsoft is collecting feedback to refine its application for broader use.
