Windows 11's Firewall, part of Windows Defender, offers robust security by controlling app network access. While it typically handles permissions automatically, users might need to manually allow or deny specific apps.
Managing App Permissions
To permit an app through the firewall, start by typing 'Settings' in the Windows search bar. Navigate to Settings, then select Privacy and Security, Windows Security, and Firewall and Network Protection. From there, choose Allow an app through the firewall.
Next, click on Change settings. Find the app you wish to adjust access for and select either Private for home or work networks or Public for shared networks. Confirm changes by clicking OK.
Additional Options
- If the app is not listed, click Allow another app to browse and select it.
- Ensure the correct network setting (Private or Public) is chosen based on location.
These controls provide users with a greater level of security and network management flexibility.
