Microsoft's remote desktop is now available on Meta's Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, allowing users to view multiple high-resolution monitors or a single immersive ultrawide display. This feature expands on the initial virtual desktop capability launched in 2024 for Quest headsets.
Enhanced Display Options
The latest enhancement with the Horizon OS v81 update enables support for an ultrawide curved display and the operation of multiple desktop displays. By installing Mixed Reality Link on a Windows PC, users can seamlessly pair with their headsets by looking at the keyboard and selecting "pair." This allows them to interact with their desktop using the headset.
Functionality and Features
Users can choose between an immersive mode and passthrough mode, which lets them see their surroundings while using the feature. Meta has introduced new functionalities including display rescaling, resizing across apps, and a Full Passthrough shortcut. This is achieved through a double-tap on the headset side or by pressing the Quest 3S action button, alongside the ability to open up to 12 apps concurrently.
