The Minecraft snapshot 25w41a introduces exciting new features including a powerful spear, an underwater nautilus mount, and naturally spawning zombie horses in survival mode.
New Underwater Adventures
The nautilus, a neutral mob now found across all ocean biomes, preys on pufferfish which players can use for taming. Once tamed, the nautilus can be saddled for underwater exploration, providing the 'Breath of the Nautilus' effect that allows for unlimited underwater travel while mounted.
- Nautilus armor variants: copper, gold, iron, diamond, netherite.
- The 'Breath of the Nautilus' effect grants unlimited underwater travel.
Introducing the Spear Weapon
The new spear is available in wood, stone, copper, iron, gold, diamond, and netherite, each with different attack speeds. The spear has a jab attack for knockback and a charge attack for dealing more damage based on movement speed. The Lunge enchantment allows players to launch forward at the cost of spear durability.
- Spear variants: wood, stone, copper, iron, gold, diamond, netherite.
- Spears cannot hit targets at very close range.
New Mobs and Gameplay Features
The snapshot also introduces naturally spawning zombie horses in survival mode, along with spear-wielding zombies, husks, piglins, and zombified piglins that can knock players off mounts. New undead variants, including zombie nautiluses, add fresh challenges but offer opportunities for player acquisition if dismounted.
Additional updates include graphics settings improvements and a stopwatch command for real-time tracking in custom content creation. The full Mounts of Mayhem update is anticipated around December, but the Java snapshot 25w41a is currently available, while Bedrock players await a preview. According to Mojang, players should consult the patch notes for a comprehensive overview before diving in.
