Microsoft has announced enhancements to its Cross-Device Resume feature in Windows 11, rolling out with builds 26100.7701 and 26200.7701 to the Release Preview channel for the 24H2 and 25H2 versions. This update allows Android apps to sync directly with Windows 11, enabling users to seamlessly resume tasks across devices.
Enhanced Functionality Across Devices
First introduced in May 2025, Cross-Device Resume initially limited users to cloud-based handoff through OneDrive. The latest update delivers true app handoff capabilities, which means tasks such as Spotify playback or browsing sessions can now be continued on a linked Windows 11 device. This improvement provides a more integrated user experience, aligning desktop and mobile workflows.
Notably, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint can now pick up from where they were left off on Android devices. This facilitates a smoother transition from mobile to desktop environments, streamlining productivity for users who rely heavily on multiple devices.
Broader Mobile Support
The update extends support to various Android devices, including Honor, Oppo, Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi. These devices can now hand over online files to Microsoft's AI-driven assistant, Copilot. If the relevant application is not installed on the PC, files will open in a browser, ensuring continuity and efficiency.
This development suggests that Microsoft is committed to strengthening its ecosystem, offering users a robust cross-device experience that may attract new adopters seeking a cohesive tech environment.
