Google has launched Now Playing as a standalone app on the Google Play Store, enhancing music identification for users.
New Features and Interface
Previously part of Android System Intelligence, Now Playing continues to automatically identify music playing nearby and displays it on the lock screen. The app now features a central hub with an icon that users can tap to identify songs manually. Additionally, a history section allows users to view and manage previously identified tracks, offering the option to listen to them on preferred music services.
User Experience and Updates
Some early adopters reported encountering an "automatic update required" dialog upon first opening the app, although settings remained accessible. Users have also shared screenshots revealing new Day and Time filters for searching through the music identification history.
