Microsoft Adds Copilot Feature to OneNote for Handwritten Notes Analysis

01 Jul 2024

Microsoft is continuing to enhance its productivity apps with the addition of more Copilot features, with a focus on its popular OneNote note-taking app. Currently, Microsoft 365 Insiders have the exclusive opportunity to test out a new Copilot feature in OneNote for Windows that is sure to excite many users.

Revolutionizing Handwritten Notes

In a recent announcement on the Microsoft 365 Insider site, the company revealed that the Copilot AI assistant can now analyze handwritten notes in addition to typed text in the OneNote app. This new capability is a significant enhancement that will make note-taking even more efficient and convenient for users.

There are two ways to launch Copilot to analyze handwritten text in OneNote. Users can either click on the Copilot icon in the app’s ribbon to open the Copilot pane and input a text prompt for scanning notes, or select handwritten notes using their finger, mouse, or stylus/pen and then click on the Copilot icon to access various options for modifying the notes. These options include creating a summary, rewriting the content, or generating a To-Do list.

Microsoft 365 Insiders can experience the new Copilot handwritten note feature by downloading and using OneNote on Windows with Version 2404 (Build 17628.20006) or later. While there is no specific timeline for when this feature will be available to all OneNote users, it is clear that Microsoft is committed to enhancing the user experience with innovative features.

Recent Enhancements in OneNote

Over the past few weeks, Microsoft 365 Insiders have had the opportunity to explore several new functions in OneNote, including:

  • Loop Components: These allow for real-time collaboration within notes, making teamwork more seamless.
  • Interactive Ink Tutorial: This feature helps users get accustomed to using digital ink effectively.
  • Eyedropper Color Tool: This tool enables the creation of custom pens for images, shapes, and inked notes, adding a layer of personalization and creativity.

These updates demonstrate Microsoft’s dedication to providing users with powerful and intuitive tools for productivity and creativity. The introduction of the Copilot feature for analyzing handwritten notes is a testament to Microsoft's ongoing commitment to innovation in its suite of productivity applications.
