A recent update to Windows 11 has resulted in USB keyboards and mice becoming non-functional within the Windows Recovery Environment (RE). Microsoft acknowledged the issue, promising a resolution soon.
Scope of the Issue
The disruption follows an October 2025 update to Windows 11 and affects Windows Recovery Environment across Windows 11 builds 25H2, 24H2, as well as Windows Server versions. While peripherals work correctly within the normal operating system, they become unresponsive in Windows RE, a critical component for diagnosing system failures.
Older PS/2-connected peripherals continue to function normally, a modest relief for users with non-USB setups. Microsoft is yet to provide a detailed timeline for the fix.
