Peak Adds MESA Update with New Biomes and Features

25 Aug 2025

Peak, the indie darling known for its challenging survival climbing mechanics, has introduced a substantial new update named the MESA Update, adding fresh content and dynamics to an already eclectic gameplay experience. With over five million copies sold, Peak has captivated players across the globe, and this latest expansion promises to keep climbing enthusiasts engaged and on edge.

Desert Biome and New Items

One of the standout features of the MESA Update is the introduction of a new desert biome, which temporarily replaces the Alpine biome. This desert landscape—dubbed the MESA desert—offers a unique survival challenge that players must navigate for a week before both biomes are shuffled randomly on game maps. Steam's climbing aficionados are set to test their mettle against this arid environment.

In addition to the new biome, several survival items make their debut in Peak, adding layers to gameplay strategy. Items such as the Scout Cannon, Balloons, Parasol, Sunscreen, and Aloe Vera provide players with tools essential for survival and exploration in the harsh desert conditions. The Dynamite introduces explosive interactions, offering creative solutions to obstacles that players encounter.

Gameplay Adjustments and Features

Alongside new content, Peak's developers at Aggro Crab have implemented several gameplay balance adjustments. The fog of the Tropics ascends at a slightly slower pace, while the newly added desert Heat mechanic decays faster but begins its decay later. Additionally, the hot rocks within the Caldera inflict more Heat, providing a tougher test for seasoned climbers.

The latest update rolls out ten new badges that reward players with vibrant cosmetic items, adding an extra layer of motivation for completionists. To accommodate player sensitivities, an arachnophobia feature has been introduced, allowing players to hide certain enemies that could trigger discomfort.

Patch and Future Outlook

While the MESA Update is extensive, Aggro Crab has tempered excitement by indicating that further major updates are yet undecided. Instead, the team will focus its immediate efforts on ensuring bug fixes and maintaining game stability, ensuring a smooth experience for users.

The MESA Update is free and currently available, with Peak seeing a 38% price reduction on Steam, dropping to $4.95 or £3.96. As players venture into the virtual desert, they'll find new challenges waiting at every sand dune peak.
