Microsoft is testing a new feature called Expanded mode in the Phone Link app, improving Android app streaming on Windows 11 desktops.
Expanded Mode Features
The Expanded mode is available in the Dev Insider build version 1.25112.33.0 of Phone Link. This option allows the App section to increase the view area for streamed Android apps. Previously, users faced challenges with narrow, vertical app windows.
- Available in app version 1.25112.33.0.
- Increases view area of Android apps.
- Currently offers limited scalability with some apps.
Compatibility and Experience
Expanded mode supports compatible Android devices from brands like Samsung, HONOR, OPPO, ASUS, vivo, and Xiaomi. While the feature enlarges app windows, some users may notice that fonts appear slightly blurry and do not scale up effectively. The window auto-aligns to the left and can't be maximized fully, making further refinement necessary before a wider release.
This testing phase aims to improve the overall usability of Phone Link's Apps feature on larger screens, although some apps still show black sidebars or partially benefit from the enlargement.
Future Improvements
As the feature is in testing, Microsoft aims to enhance the user experience for streaming Android apps, ensuring seamless integration with Windows 11 devices.
