Windows to Introduce AirDrop-Like File Sharing for Android Users

15 Aug 2024

Windows users are poised to experience a transformative new file-sharing feature that mirrors the convenience of Apple’s AirDrop. This advancement stems from the integration of Phone Link and the Link to Windows Android app, which together facilitate effortless content sharing between devices.

Streamlined File Transfers

The introduction of this feature is set to significantly enhance the user experience, allowing for file transfers directly through the native share menus on both Windows and Android devices. This streamlined process simplifies the task of moving files across different platforms, making it more intuitive for users.

Currently, the feature is being rolled out to Windows Insiders, with expectations for a wider public release in the near future. To take advantage of this innovative capability, users will need a PC equipped with either Windows 11 or Windows 10, specifically with the May 2019 update or later.

Effortless Integration

Once the setup is complete, users will discover the new functionality seamlessly integrated into their sharing options. On a PC, the “Phone Link” option will conveniently appear under “Share using” when files are being shared. In parallel, Android users will notice “Link to Windows – Send to PC” as a selectable sharing option on their devices.

As this feature rolls out, it promises to redefine how users interact with their devices, fostering a more connected and efficient digital ecosystem.
