Samsung Streamlines Android App Mirroring on Windows with One UI 6.1.1 Update

09 Aug 2024

Samsung Galaxy smartphone users can now enjoy a more seamless experience when streaming Android apps to their Windows laptops, thanks to the recent One UI 6.1.1 update. This enhancement addresses a previous inconvenience that required users to grant permission each time they initiated app mirroring through Microsoft’s Phone Link app.

Since its introduction in 2020, the Phone Link app has allowed users to connect their Android devices to Windows, initially as a Galaxy-exclusive feature. While it has expanded to a select few Android devices, the functionality remains most refined on Samsung smartphones, especially with the latest updates.

Streamlined Mirroring Process

According to Android Authority, the One UI 6.1.1 update simplifies the mirroring process significantly. Users now only need to approve the connection the first time they use the feature, eliminating the repetitive prompts that were previously required for each session. This return to the original mirroring behavior is particularly welcome, as the changes in Android 14 had inadvertently complicated the process.

Samsung has adopted a method similar to Google’s “Phone Hub,” which also supports app mirroring on ChromeOS, ensuring a smoother transition for users. However, it’s important to note that the Galaxy device must remain unlocked for the mirroring to function effectively.

Availability and Future Updates

The One UI 6.1.1 update is currently available on the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6, marking them as the first devices to benefit from this improvement. Other models, including the anticipated Galaxy S24 series, are expected to receive this update soon, bringing the same streamlined experience to a broader audience.
