Enhanced Revenue Opportunities
Starting later this year, developers will be able to retain between 50 and 70 percent of the revenue generated from players who make purchases using real-world money on desktop. This marks a substantial increase from the previous model, where developers received approximately 30 percent from transactions made with in-game currency.
Roblox has indicated that this new revenue-sharing structure will eventually extend to other platforms, further broadening the potential for developers to monetize their creations.
A Vision for the Future
In addition to the changes in revenue sharing, Roblox has articulated an ambitious vision for its role in the gaming industry. The company projects that in the coming years, it could account for 10 percent of all global games revenue. This assertion seems aimed at reassuring shareholders about the platform’s growth trajectory.
Roblox anticipates that its user base will swell to approximately 300 million daily active users, with around 80 percent of these users engaging with the platform primarily for gaming. The remaining users are expected to explore various other activities, including shopping, consuming entertainment, learning, and socializing.
