Sony Halts PC Releases for Single-Player PlayStation Games

05 Mar 2026

Sony is reportedly changing its strategy by halting the release of single-player PlayStation games on PC, making them PS5 exclusives. This shift, reported by Bloomberg, marks a significant change in Sony's approach to game distribution.

Upcoming Game Releases

According to the report, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, titled Ghost of Yotei, will not receive a PC port as initially planned. Similarly, Saros, a new title from Housemarque set for release on 2024-04-30, will remain a PS5 exclusive without a PC version. This move contrasts with Sony's previous strategy, where games like Ghost of Tsushima eventually made their way to PC.

Multiplayer and Third-Party Titles

Despite the shift for single-player games, multiplayer titles such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon will continue to be available on multiple platforms. Additionally, third-party developed games like Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora, published by PlayStation, are still expected to receive PC releases. This indicates that Sony is maintaining a multi-platform approach for games that benefit from large online communities.

Strategic Considerations

The decision to focus on PS5 exclusives for single-player games may be influenced by speculation about Microsoft's next Xbox potentially being a PC/console hybrid. Sony might be aiming to prevent PlayStation titles from being playable on Xbox hardware through PC storefronts like Steam or the Epic Games Store. Despite this shift, Sony's president Hiroki Totoki previously emphasized the importance of expanding first-party content to PC to enhance profit margins, suggesting that the strategy could evolve with industry changes.
