Microsoft is set to introduce image support to Notepad on Windows 11, expanding its Markdown capabilities. This update aims to fill the gap left by WordPad, which traditionally supported images.
New Feature Details
The upcoming feature will allow users to insert images into Notepad documents, complementing the existing Markdown support that includes bold, italics, and links. According to Microsoft sources, the feature has been designed to have minimal impact on performance. It will be enabled by default, but users can disable it through the Settings menu if desired.
Testing and Rollout
Currently, image support is being tested in internal builds of Windows 11. An image button has appeared in the "What’s new" dialog of Notepad following a recent Windows Insider update, although it is not yet functional. Microsoft plans to roll out the feature in the coming months, offering users more flexibility in structuring their text documents.
