Sony Reevaluates PC Ports for PlayStation 5 Exclusives

05 Mar 2026

Sony is reportedly reconsidering its strategy for releasing PlayStation 5 exclusives on PC, following disappointing sales figures. Sources familiar with the company's plans revealed to Bloomberg that the move is intended to protect the PlayStation brand and bolster console sales.

Current and Future Releases

Despite this shift, Sony will continue to release certain online games across multiple platforms. Titles like Marathon and Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls are expected to be available on both console and PC. However, single-player games may remain exclusive to the PS5 for longer periods. For instance, Ghost of Yōtei and Housemarque's upcoming action game Saros are reportedly staying exclusive to the console.

Meanwhile, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Kena: Scars of Kosmora are still scheduled for PC ports. Sony's decision to publish Helldivers 2 on PC at launch contrasts with its approach to other single-player titles.

Historical Context and Market Impact

Sony began bringing major franchises to PC via Steam in 2020, with titles like God of War and The Last of Us. The release of Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut on PC in 2024 marked a significant step, integrating features such as trophies and PSN profiles. However, the PC port of Helldivers 2 faced backlash over PSN connectivity requirements, leading Sony to reverse this decision.

These developments come amid reports that Sony may delay the rollout of its next-generation console to 2028 or 2029 due to an AI-driven memory shortage. A PlayStation spokesperson declined to comment on these strategic shifts.
