Challenges with HDDs

For over two decades, HDDs were a staple in the author's PC, providing large storage volumes but also causing noise, vibration, and heat issues. These mechanical drives complicated cable management and airflow, leading to potential data loss from drive failures.

Efforts to mitigate these issues included using multiple HDDs and experimenting with various setups, such as file servers and docking stations. However, these solutions often introduced new challenges, such as increased heat and the need to power down the PC for disk management.

Benefits of SSD Adoption

The shift to SSDs, including models like the Samsung 860 EVO and ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11 Pro, addressed many of these concerns. SSDs operate silently and generate less heat, enhancing the PC's portability and responsiveness. The author noted that the absence of HDD-induced noise and vibrations was a significant improvement.

By relocating HDDs to a separate file server, the gaming PC became quieter and more efficient. The investment in soundproofing and quiet components, such as a silent power supply and low-noise fans, further contributed to a more pleasant computing experience.
