PC Gamer staff significantly outpaced the average Steam user in 2025, playing a median of 72 games each. This finding is based on a survey of 19 staff members' Steam activity. Within the group, Joshua Wolens reached the highest number at 134, while the lowest was 28 games.
High Engagement Metrics
On average, writers unlocked 558 Steam achievements, amounting to 9,497 across the team. Impressively, 56% of the games played were new releases for 2025. Removing those who played over 100 games slightly increased that percentage. The group also displayed a median daily play streak of 36 consecutive days.
Comparison with General Users
Compared to regular Steam users, PC Gamer writers played more games (median user: 4 games), earned more achievements (median user: 11), and focused more on 2025 releases (median user: 14%). Additionally, they used keyboard-and-mouse setups 59% of the time, resorting to controllers for 41% of gameplay.
The survey highlights PC Gamer's higher engagement levels, though it notes the limited sample size and the potential impact of using alternative platforms like Epic and GOG on reported data.
