Sad Socket's strategy game, 9 Kings, has expanded its roster with the addition of The King of Time. This update completes the game's titular roster by introducing a new ruler whose abilities add a fresh layer of strategy through time-traveling mechanics.
The King of Time Features
The King of Time introduces unique temporal effects that reward both speed and patience. Key abilities include the Portal card, which allows players to return to a previous in-game year while retaining progress, and the Adrenaline card, which quickens battles. Another strategic card, Bastion, can send enemy forces back to the beginning of fights.
New Perks and Game Mechanics
The update includes a new Banisher perk, enabling players to remove a selected king for their next session. This allows for greater control over game difficulty, possibly reverting the game to its prior eight-king setup if desired. Additionally, the game has undergone a difficulty overhaul, making easier modes more challenging and reducing the random number generator (RNG) impact in harder settings.
Additional Enhancements
9 Kings now features new Steam achievements along with balance adjustments and bug fixes. Developer Sad Socket has also promised further expansions, including new decrees, cards, and the introduction of challenge and ranked modes. To celebrate this update, 9 Kings is on sale for $9 (£8) through October 23, 2023.
