HP to Integrate Google Essentials App Across Consumer and Gaming PCs

23 Aug 2024
In a noteworthy collaboration, Google has revealed that HP will be the inaugural PC manufacturer to integrate its new Google Essentials application into its latest consumer and gaming computers. While the specifics of this partnership remain somewhat ambiguous, it appears that this move does not signal an increased focus on native Windows applications from Google.

Google Essentials: A New Era for HP Users

According to Google director Ashish Pimplapure, “Today, we’re introducing Google Essentials, a new app that makes it easier for you to discover and install many of our best Google services — including Google Play Games — when setting up a new PC.” This application will initially be available across a range of HP’s Windows consumer and gaming brands, including Spectre, Envy, Pavilion, OMEN, Victus, and HP Brand, with plans to extend to all OmniBook brands shortly. Users will have the convenience of accessing Google Essentials directly from the start menu, allowing seamless transitions between their phone and laptop.

Windows Intelligence In Your Inbox

For those eager to enhance their productivity, signing up for a new free newsletter offers three time-saving tips each Friday, along with complimentary copies of Paul Thurrott’s Windows 11 and Windows 10 Field Guides, typically priced at .99, as a special welcome gift.

Google Essentials is designed to streamline user experience by providing quick access to essential services such as Google Photos, Google Messages, Google Docs, Google Drive, and Google Calendar via the web. Additionally, eligible Google One subscribers will enjoy a complimentary two-month trial of Google One 100 GB storage.

As is customary with bundled software on new PCs, users retain the option to uninstall Google Essentials at their discretion. Google has indicated that it plans to expand the availability of this app to additional laptops and desktops in the months ahead, leaving many curious about the potential developments on the horizon.

How much is Google Workspace Essentials?

Google Workspace Essentials pricing starts at $8 USD per user per month. This plan provides access to essential tools like Google Meet, Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides with 100 GB of cloud storage per user. Enhanced features and storage upgrades are available in higher-tier plans, such as Business Starter, Business Standard, and Business Plus, which offer additional functionalities and increased storage.

Does Microsoft Security Essentials protect Google Chrome?

Microsoft Security Essentials is an antivirus program designed to protect Windows operating systems from malware, spyware, and other malicious software. While it primarily focuses on the system-level protection, it also scans and mitigates threats found in web browsers, including Google Chrome. However, it is advisable to use a dedicated browser security extension to provide more specific protection for web browsing activities.
