Microsoft is set to reintroduce the ability for Windows 11 users to move and resize the taskbar, a feature that was removed with the launch of Windows 11. This change addresses one of the most frequent user requests, according to reports from Windows Central and insights by Windows expert Zac Bowden.
Taskbar Customization Features
The upcoming update will allow users to position the taskbar on any edge of the screen—left, right, top, or bottom—and resize it, with icons adjusting accordingly. This flexibility was a staple in Windows operating systems for nearly three decades before being restricted in Windows 11.
To accommodate these changes, integrated features such as Copilot, the Start menu, notifications, and the power menu will require adjustments to function seamlessly with the new taskbar configurations.
Expected Release Timeline
Reports suggest that the movable and resizable taskbar could be available by 2026, with a potential release as early as the summer of that year. This timeline indicates Microsoft's commitment to enhancing user customization options in Windows 11.
