Microsoft Tests Customizable Sound Notifications for Teams Users

03 Jul 2024

Microsoft is currently testing a new feature for Teams users on Windows and the web that aims to enhance the notification experience for online meetings and chats. In a recent post on the Microsoft 365 Insiders blog, the company announced the introduction of customizable sound notifications for Teams. This feature is designed to help users stay focused, prioritize tasks, and avoid distractions by allowing them to adjust the sound settings for different types of notifications.

Custom Sound Notifications Testing for Microsoft Teams Users

For those who are part of the Teams Public Preview builds, accessing this feature is simple. By opening Teams on Windows or the web and navigating to the app’s settings through the three-dot icon, users can find the Notifications and activity menu. From there, they can click on the Sound option to begin customizing their notification sounds.

The feature offers users the ability to choose from a selection of eight different sound options, including Default, Vibe, Nudge, Tap, Flick, Pluck, Summon, and Ping. Additionally, there are four additional sound options available specifically for urgent and priority contact notifications, such as Prioritize, Escalate, and Alarm.

Furthermore, users can opt to enable sound notifications when they are busy or in a meeting by selecting the Play sounds when I’m busy or in a meeting checkbox.

While the feature is currently being tested by members of the Teams Public Preview and Microsoft 365 Targeted release versions, there is no official timeline for when it will be rolled out to all Teams users on Windows and the web. Additionally, it remains unclear when this feature will be extended to other Teams platforms.
