Microsoft Teams Expands Support for Personal Accounts on Multiple Platforms

03 Jul 2024

Microsoft Teams, known as one of the top enterprise communication and collaboration platforms, has recently made strides to cater to personal users as well. Initially available only for enterprise accounts, Microsoft has now extended support for personal accounts on Mac, Windows 10, and the web based on user feedback.

Unified Experience Across Platforms

The new Teams app on Windows 11 already supports all types of accounts, allowing users to seamlessly switch between personal, work, and school accounts. This expanded support aims to provide a unified experience across all platforms.

Introducing Communities

With the addition of personal account support, users can now access Communities within Teams. These communities function like Facebook Groups, enabling members to engage in discussions, share files and photos, participate in video calls, plan events, and more. Teams offers both public and private community options.

Enhanced Meeting Capabilities

When using a personal account in Teams, users can create meetings with up to 60 minutes and 100 participants. Additionally, individuals with multiple logged-in accounts can easily select the desired Teams account when joining a meeting or enter as a guest without signing in.

Availability and Future Enhancements

The new Teams app for Windows 10 and Mac is readily available, while the new web experience for Teams for Personal can be accessed by toggling the “Try the new Teams” option on the top left. In the near future, this web experience will become the default for all users.

If users have feedback to enhance the new Teams experience for personal use, they are encouraged to share it with Microsoft to further improve the platform.
