Artur Ganszyniec, the lead story designer for the original 2007 Witcher game, recently shared a playthrough on his YouTube channel, offering insights into its development process. He revealed that he and project lead Jacek Brzeziński wrote and implemented much of the game's epilogue during late-night sessions towards the end of production, resulting in some rough edges.
Development Challenges
Ganszyniec candidly discussed the challenges faced during the game's development. He admitted to being responsible for many of the epilogue's issues, stating, "Most of the epilogue, I was the one implementing it. I've got only myself to blame for everything that's happening here." During the playthrough, he encountered a bug that prevented lighting a campfire needed for meditation, which he criticized as "extremely stupid design."
Upcoming Remake
The original Witcher remains a classic for many fans, and a full remake is currently in development by Fool's Theory, using Unreal Engine 5. CD Projekt Red is supervising the project, and it is expected that some of the issues highlighted by Ganszyniec will be addressed in the remake. This new version aims to bring the beloved game to modern standards while preserving its core essence.
