Copilot Enhances Windows 11 with New Home Tab Features

09 Sep 2025

Microsoft is revolutionizing the Windows 11 user experience with its latest update to Copilot, introducing a new Home tab designed to streamline AI functionality. This feature starts an evolution from a chat-first interface to a Start menu–like hub that offers enhanced access to artificial intelligence tools.

Dynamic Cards for Improved Navigation

The Home tab introduces four dynamic cards aimed at optimizing user interaction. Of particular note is the "Jump back into your files" card, which pulls recent files directly from File Explorer’s Quick Access. This allows for swift actions such as opening the file in its default application, attaching the file for Copilot’s analysis, or even summarizing its contents. Users have the option to toggle "Hide all recent files" should they wish to customize their view further.

Additional cards enrich the experience by preserving previous conversations and offering features like "Work on Copilot Pages." This feature bears resemblance to ChatGPT’s Canvas, facilitating document or code editing with ease. Another card, "Get guided help with your apps," initiates a Vision session capable of interacting with your screen and responding to voice commands to guide you through application usage.

Advanced Features and Future Developments

Alongside these features, Microsoft is currently testing a cutting-edge ChatGPT-powered Agent. This Agent is designed to open a terminal and browser within a Linux shell running on an Azure cloud VM, automating complex tasks such as booking travel or browsing websites without user intervention.

The strategic placement of the Home tab within Windows 11 not only aims to integrate Copilot smoothly into daily workflows but also showcases its potential for transcending simple chat functionalities. This shift reflects Microsoft's commitment to enriching user engagement through innovative technology.

As the feature rolls out to users, there might be a gradual appearance in Windows 11 systems, indicating a phased approach to deployment. This transition signifies not only an enhancement in operational ease but also a bold step toward a more interconnected and AI-driven future.
