Microsoft is enhancing the Windows 11 experience with a new feature called Copy & Search, now being tested in the Windows Insider Dev Channel. This feature streamlines the process of searching copied text directly from the taskbar search box.
Feature Details
Copy & Search allows users to paste text into the taskbar search box effortlessly. When you copy text anywhere in Windows, a paste indicator appears. Clicking it automatically inserts the copied text into the search box, enabling quick access to results. This functionality aims to minimize steps from the clipboard to search results.
Availability and Use
The Copy & Search feature is currently a part of a controlled rollout in the Dev Channel. The timing and wider availability depend on user feedback. Users in the Dev Channel can toggle this feature on or off and test it by copying text and clicking the taskbar indicator.
Privacy and User Control
This feature is designed with user privacy in mind: the paste indicator prompts the user, rather than automatically initiating a search. Users have the option to edit or cancel the text before starting a search. The feature is unobtrusive, melding into the background when not in use.
