Microsoft has resolved an issue with Windows 10 showing incorrect support expiry notices to some users enrolled in its Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.
Issue Impacting ESU Users
The problem arose from a bug affecting Windows Update, causing some Windows 10 users to see a message stating their version had reached the end of support. This error appeared even though these users were correctly enrolled in Microsoft's ESU program, which extends security updates until late 2026.
- The error impacted Windows 10, version 22H2, Pro, Education, and Enterprise editions.
- Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 and IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 were also affected.
- Users facing this bug were unable to click the "Check for updates" button.
Server-Side Fix Implemented
Microsoft has deployed a server-side fix to address the issue, allowing the erroneous message to clear as the fix takes effect. The company reassured users that Windows Update will continue to download and install necessary ESU security updates during this extended period.
Support for Windows 10 officially ended on 2025-10-14, but ESU enrollment ensures continued protection until October 2026.
