Optimizing Windows 11 by Disabling Nonessential Services

04 Oct 2025

Optimizing your Windows 11 system may be more straightforward than you think. By disabling a few nonessential services, you can reclaim precious resources and see a noticeable difference in performance. One key service to consider is the Connected User Experiences and Telemetry, which sends diagnostic data such as crash reports and system insights to Microsoft. If you prefer more privacy and fewer background processes, consider disabling this service. To do so, access the Services app, locate Connected User Experiences and Telemetry, stop it, and set the Startup type to Disabled. Additionally, in the Privacy & Security settings, choose Diagnostics & Feedback to disable optional diagnostic data. You may also opt to delete collected diagnostic data altogether.

Tuning Remote Capabilities

Remote Desktop Services allow you to access your PC from other devices, but if this feature is rarely used, it could be an unnecessary drain on system resources and an increased security risk. Disable it by accessing the Services app, finding Remote Desktop Services, halting it, and disabling it upon startup. Re-enabling is simple if ever remote access becomes necessary again.

Windows Update Delivery Optimization is designed to improve update delivery by sharing parts of downloaded updates across devices in a network, useful in environments with multiple PCs. However, for single PC setups, this service is redundant. To disable, navigate to Settings, select Windows Update, open Advanced Options, proceed to Delivery Optimization, and turn off the feature.

Managing Apps and AI Features

The Xbox app, though designed for gamers, can sometimes run unwanted background processes. To remove it, head to Settings, open Apps, select Xbox, and uninstall. Review other apps installed simultaneously and visit the Task Manager's Startup section to identify and disable any unneeded apps upon system start.

Lastly, consider disabling newer Microsoft AI features like Copilot and Recall. These features aim to enhance productivity but come at the cost of consuming system resources. One way to tackle this is through Flyoobe, a third-party tool granting users the ability to customize AI feature utilization. Available on its official website, Flyoobe can help detect and disable AI features under its AI tab. As with any third-party tool, review its functions carefully to ensure you're comfortable with the changes it implements.

By evaluating and managing these services and apps, Windows 11 users can free up system resources and potentially enhance the performance and efficiency of their PCs.
