27 Aug 2024

Blackmagic has made a significant stride in the video editing landscape with the release of DaVinci Resolve 19, now fully compatible with Windows on ARM. Initially unveiled at the 2023 Snapdragon Summit, this powerful software has transitioned from its beta phase to general availability, marking a milestone as the first version to offer native support for the Snapdragon X series chips.

DaVinci Resolve 19 is available in both free and paid versions, providing a robust alternative to Adobe Premiere Pro, which has yet to implement ARM64 support. While Adobe’s software can be used on ARM laptops through emulation, it has not yet matched the efficiency and performance that DaVinci Resolve offers on the new Copilot+ PCs.

Focus on ARM Compatibility

While DaVinci Resolve 19 is also compatible with Intel and AMD systems, the focus on ARM compatibility is particularly noteworthy. The free version of the software is comprehensive, often surpassing the features found in some paid alternatives. For those seeking additional capabilities, a one-time upgrade fee of $295 is available, steering clear of the common subscription model.

However, users with older Windows on ARM devices may encounter limitations, as attempts to install the software on devices like the Surface Pro X have resulted in GPU errors. Nevertheless, for creators utilizing the latest Copilot+ PCs, the arrival of DaVinci Resolve is a promising development. Although the number of such devices is currently limited, their presence is expected to increase, further solidifying the software’s relevance in the industry.

A Tool for All Creators

DaVinci Resolve is not just a tool for amateurs; it has been employed in the editing of blockbuster films such as Deadpool 2, Avengers: Infinity War, John Wick 3, and Avatar. Now, with its availability on Snapdragon-powered laptops, aspiring filmmakers and seasoned professionals alike can harness the same high-quality software that has become a staple in Hollywood. The opportunity to download and explore DaVinci Resolve awaits, inviting users to discover its capabilities firsthand.
